Abstract

·         In March 2018, the level of inequality of population expenditure of Bangka Belitung Islands measured by Gini Ratio was 0.281. This figure increased by 0.005 points when compared with Gini Ratio September 2017 which amounted to 0.276. Meanwhile, when compared with Gini Ratio in March 2017 that amounted to 0.282 down by 0.001 points.

·         Gini Ratio in urban areas in March 2018 amounted to 0.296, up from Gini Ratio September 2017 which amounted to 0.288 and decreased compared to Gini Ratio in March 2017 which was 0.303. While the Gini Ratio in rural areas in March 2018 amounted to 0.238 increase compared to Gini Ratio September 2017 of 0.236 and Gini Ratio in March 2017 which amounted to 0.219.

·         Another commonly used measure of inequality is the percentage of expenditure in the lowest 40 percent population group. Based on this measure the level of inequality is divided into 3 categories, namely "high" if the number is below 12 percent, "medium" if the number is between 12-17 percent, and "low" if the figure is above 17 percent.

·         In March 2018, the distribution of expenditure in the lowest 40 percent group was 23.19 percent. This means that the population expenditure is still in the category of low level of inequality. If detailed by region, in urban areas the figure is 22.20 percent, while for rural areas 25.43 percent, which means both in urban and in rural areas fall into the category of low inequality.
